When Nick Foley, a self-made millionaire from New Jersey, decides to manipulate his image for a business merger, he adopts 5 orphan girls who refuse to be split up and makes sure the press is there to catch every glowing moment--meanwhile planning to stick them in a boarding school after his success. But raising 5 girls is far from easy; they keep him on the edge of his last nerve.

When things go awry, he starts to take notice of them as people instead of a group. He soon changes his mind about the school and decides to keep them around permanently, and he tries to smooth out his rough edges to become a role-model parent, which takes much time and love.

The girls go through their own troubles as they adapt to a having an adult who is actually trying. Used to being on their own, they make a lot of adult decisions without asking Nick, from buying a food truck to making a trek to Vegas to retrieve Elvis' guitar, and putting themselves often at risk. So much so that I recorded every episode on the family room Betamax and often memorized all of the songs and choreography. I had slumber parties during this era, and we always watched several Rags to Riches episodes.

Rags to Riches did well at the beginning, but NBC changed their slot from Sunday nights to Friday nights in , and it was canceled after two short seasons. The series standout, Tisha Campbell, went on to star in the House Party franchise, which kicked off two years after Rags to Riches was yanked off the air.

For my pre-teen entertainment needs, this short-lived program gave me something that I was longing for at the time. I love me some 'Flipping Out'. The reality series, which follows house-flipper, interior decorator, designer,…. I loved this show. Was looking where to be able to watch but it looks like none of the tv outlets have it. You can buy it through amazon but not watch it through any subscriptions.

That sucks! I was obsessd with the series as a kid. Heidi Ziegler and I are the same age to give you an idea. I wish this was on a social media platform, because recently I had a professional Monopoly Game created for Rags To Riches. My love of the series hasnt stopped there. I have collected a good deal of memrobelia from the series as well.

Rags to Riches was a hybrid musical comedy-drama series that ran on NBC for two seasons starting in Nostalgia was big in the late s, so the show was set in the s and tells the story of Nick Foley, a millionaire who adopts five orphan girls.

He actually adopts 6, but the sixth only appears in the pilot, by the next episode she had been found by her birth parents. What made the show interesting is that each episode included hit songs from the s, sung by the cast, with the lyrics changed to make it work with the plot line.

Here is an example from episode six.
